Seven suspects arrested for receiving and dealing with stolen vehicles are among 207 suspects arrested since Thursday, 23 December until 28 December 2021, through various multi-disciplinary Safer Festive Season Operations in the province.

Daniel Magata (37), Thobile Silindane (34) and Kgaugelo Kubeka (26) were arrested on Thursday, 23 December 2021, in Soweto and Langlaagte after being linked to 36 cases of motor vehicle theft, 17 counts of fraudulent face value documents and two counts of possession of suspected stolen properties.

The crimes were allegedly committed between June 2017 and June 2021 in Gauteng and North West Provinces respectively.

Magata and Silindane were subsequently remanded in custody upon their appearance before the Atamelang Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 24 December 2021. They are expected to reappear before the same court on Thursday, 6 January 2022 for a formal bail application.

Kubeka was granted R500.00 bail after appearing before the Lichtenburg Magistrate’s Court also on Friday, 24 December 2021 and is expected to reappear before the same court on Monday, 31 January 2022.

Upon further investigation, on Friday, 24 December 2021, four more suspects aged between 31 and 47 were also arrested in Mmabatho, Setlagole and Madibogo after being linked to the syndicate.

They are expected to appear before the Setlagole Periodical Court on Tuesday, 28 December 2021.

Meanwhile, other suspects nabbed during the operations include 86 for liquor related offences such as drinking and / or drunk in public place and illegal dealing in liquor.

In addition, six others were apprehended for possession of dangerous weapons as well as possession of suspected stolen property. A total of 28 motorists were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol while 234 fines were issued for road traffic related offences.

During the operations, goods such as fireworks, various sorts of drugs, liquor, knives and electrical appliances were confiscated.

The arrested suspects are expected to appear in various courts in the province on Tuesday, 28 December 2021
