A 35 year old police official was on Thursday, 12 September 2019, granted R1000.00 bail when she appeared in the Brits Magistrates’ Court in connection with stock theft.

The court appearance of Betrice Mopai who is stationed at Brits Police Station came after her apprehension on Tuesday, 10 September 2019.

According to information available at this stage, reports suggest that sheep were seen roaming around Sonop Township outside Brits where Mopai stays. The police went to investigate after being alerted by members of the community about the sheep that were seen at Mopai’s kraal.

Consequently, Mopai was found in possession of four sheep. She was then arrested after failing to account on how she acquired the livestock. She appeared in court yesterday and her case was postponed until Friday, 4 October 2019.

The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane condemned the incident and said that no mercy will be shown to members who are involved in criminal activities. She applauded members of the community for working together with the police to ensure that the accused is arrested.
