Six armed suspects held for robbery in Orkney, North West

Six armed men made off with good estimated to over R133,000 after robbing a retail shop in Orkney near Klerksdorp, North West police said on Tuesday.

Sergeant Kelebogile Moleko said the men aged between 27 and 42 were arrested on Monday, in Jouberton near Klerksdorp.

“It is alleged that the suspects entered the shop and threatened the store manager with a firearm, took her into the fitting room and tied her with wires. It is alleged that suspects ransacked the store and left the scene with a red vehicle.”

She said neighbouring police stations and units were informed about the incident and were on the lookout for the suspects and swiftly arrested them.

“The suspects were found in possession of stolen items such as clothing, a 9mm firearm, one live bullet, three cameras, two Plasma TV’s, one digital duplicator printer, one logic laminator and one HD printer, all to the estimated value of R133,200.00.”

They were charged with four counts of business robbery, possession of unlicensed firearm and possession of stolen property, which occurred around the Klerksdorp and Orkney areas.

They were expected to appear in the Orkney Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
