A 55 year old man was remanded in custody until Wednesday, 20 November 2019 upon appearance in the Brits Magistrates’ Court on 11 November 2019, on 15 counts of sexual assault.

The accused was arrested on Friday 8 November 2019, for alleged sexual assault of 15 learners in Bethanie village outside Brits. According to information available at this stage, reports suggest that information was received from an educator about apparent sexual assault of boys aged between 7 and 11 by the accused.

A follow-up was made and the accused was subsequently arrested after a learner disclosed to the local Community Police Forum (CPF) members during the school safety session.

It is further alleged that as part of committing these hideous acts, the accused would lure the victims to his place, offer them money and in turn sexually assaulted them. Investigation into the matter continues.

The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane condemned the incident and thanked the Community Police Forum members for their active participation that led to exposure and apprehension of the accused. She said that the arrest clearly shows that cooperation between the police and the community is key in the fight against crime.
