SANDF, cruelty, despicable starvation of horses at army unit

The National Council of the Animal Protection Association (SPCA) strongly criticized the SA Defense Force on the state of SANDF Special Infantry Capability Unit in Potchefstroom.

During a visit to the unit it was found that 25 horses had to be ‘put down’ due to malnutrition.

The lack of trained staff and facilities has resulted in the overall care of horses being insufficient. The horses had no food and were left to eat sand and their own excretions.
