'Safer Festive Season' operations: 247 Suspects arrested, NW

In turning the tide against crime, police in the province arrested in the early hours of Friday, 15 November 2019, a total of 247 suspects for various offences during suspect raiding operations that preceded the provincial roll-out of the Safer Festive Season Operations held at Wonderkop Stadium, Marikana.

The suspects were arrested at all seven policing clusters in the province. Out of 247, arrests, 47 were effected in the Rustenburg Cluster. Moreover, in a disruptive operation in the early hours of Friday, a 23 year old suspect was arrested for illegal possession of suspected stolen goods in Marikana. That was after the suspect was found in possession of G4S bullet resistant vest.

In addition, a trailer of which the chassis number was tampered with, was seized at one of the three chop shops that were visited during the operation.

“By launching this campaign, we are making it known to all and sundry that we are indeed ready to strive towards a safe and incident free festive season for all who will be within the borders of our beloved country,” said the Premier of North West, Prof Job Mokgoro during the roll out of the Safer Festive Season Operations which was also attended by the MEC for Community Safety and Transport Management, Sello Lehari.

As part of commitment of the police and other law enforcement agencies to ensure safety and security in the course of the season, the Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane handed an operational plan to the Premier.
