Calvin Kwinana (45) was sentenced to five years imprisonment with an option of a fine of R30 000-00 for fraud at the Brits Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday 19 January 2021.
The accused who was employed by the South African Nuclear Energy Corporation as an accountant, misappropriated the company’s funds to the value of R268 000-00 which he transferred to his personal account.
The investigation by the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime team resulted in the accused being arrested in 2015. He made a series of court appearances until his recent conviction and sentencing.
