The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena has condemned in the strongest possible terms an incident in which a 45-year-old taxi owner was allegedly shot and injured in Rustenburg.

This is after two groups belonging to two different taxi associations operating in Rustenburg and using the same route and platform at the Rustenburg Taxi Rank, allegedly clashed at about 12:00 on Tuesday, 23 February 2021 in Rustenburg North.

The incident occurred at the offices belonging to one of the two associations. During the clash, a 45-year-old taxi owner, was shot once in the back. As a result, he was transported to a local hospital where he is admitted.

Following the incident, Lawrence Mazibuko (50) and Veronica Nodongwe (58) were arrested at the scene. They were charged with attempted murder and conspiracy to commit an offence respectively. Both the accused were released on a R1000.00 bail each upon appearance before the Rustenburg Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 25 February 2021.

They are due to appear before the same court on Monday, 8 March 2021. Investigation into the matter continues.
