On January 2, two young boys were sitting listening to music at Little Margate, Rustenburg, when two suspects armed with a pistol and a knife approached them. The suspects attacked the victims who fought back.
The boys managed to get the knife and stabbed one of the suspects in the leg.
One of the boys suffered a cut on the head.
The suspects fled and Rustenburg Crime Combatting Forum (RCCF) was called in. A search in the mountains began.
Reinforcements were requested and CPF and Komando members came to help.
The suspects ran in the direction of Helen Joseph Drive and hid against the concrete wall of Leeurik Avenue. They later fled up the mountain.
Several IDs, wallets, bank cards and other items were found. A pistol was later found in a hole along the road where the suspects were hiding. However, it seems that it was a gas gun with a .22 cartridge that was stuck in it.
The search was eventually called off due to darkness.
