At approximately 22:00 on Tuesday, 13 February 2018, the police in Rustenburg arrested five suspects for burglary business.

The arrest came after the police acted on a tip off about the suspects who were committing burglary at a car parts sales outlet in Rustenburg Central Business District (CBD).The suspects were allegedly seen leaving the place in a white Toyota Quantum.

According to information available at this stage, it appears that upon seeing the police, they fired shots at them. The police allegedly returned fire and one of the suspects, 25, was fatally wounded.

The other five suspects aged between 27 and 32 were arrested on the scene. They are expected to appear on Friday, 16 February 2018 in the Rustenburg Magistrates Court facing charges of burglary business, attempted murder, possession of unlawful firearms and possession of suspected stolen goods.

We would like to indicate that contrary to social media reports, the person who was fatally wounded during the incident, is not a taxi driver.
