The North West provincial management welcomed 5 life terms and 3 years imprisonment handed down to a 35 year old Kgomotso Justice Molotsi and applauded the Rustenburg Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Units (FCS) for securing the sentences.

This is after the Rustenburg Regional Court sentenced the accused on Thursday, 18 January 2018 for a series of rape crimes committed between December 2010 and April 2013 at various places in Boitekong Township near Rustenburg. The accused raped victims aged between 16 and 29 years respectively.

In one of the incidents, on 19 December 2010, three cousins, between the ages of 16 and 29 were on their way home in Extension 2, Boitekong when the accused caught and dragged them to the nearby bushes where he raped them repeatedly. One of the cousins was also dragged to his house where he raped her.

The accused was found guilty and sentenced to three life imprisonments for eight counts of rape.

In another incident, the accused raped a 24 year old woman on 21 December 2010 at Extension 2, Boitekong. For this incident, the accused was sentenced to life imprisonment. He was further sentenced to life imprisonment for two counts of rape after he raped a 27 year old woman on 1 October 2013.

The court further sentenced him to three years imprisonment for sexual assault that was committed on 20 April 2013 at Extension 4 Boitekong, whereby he raped a 27 year old woman.

It was established during the investigation that the accused’s modus operandi was that he would await the victims on their way home during the night, then attacked and raped them in the bushes while threatening to kill them with a knife.

The accused was unknown to all the victims. However, thorough cooperation from the members of the community, the police managed to arrest the accused and charged on rape cases. Through further investigation and efficient utilization of investigative aids, the accused was linked through DNA to all six cases.

The North West Provincial Commissioner; Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane extended her appreciation to the investigating officer, Detective Warrant Officer Mokgatlhe Mokgatlhe, all other South African Police Service members, members of the community and other role players including prosecution for working together to ensure that the conviction is secured. She said that the sentences will certainly send a strong message that those who commit crimes will languish in jail.
