The fight against sexual offences in the province attained success when Itsoseng Regional Court sentenced Abel Nhlapo (25) to 14 years imprisonment on Thursday, 22 February 2018.

Nhlapo’s sentencing follows an incident in which he raped a minor who was 16 year old in April 2014. The victim who is now 19 year old disclosed during the court proceedings that she was on her way back home in the early hours of Sunday, 19 April 2014, after attending a night vigil at Shiela village outside Itsoseng when the accused and his friend volunteered to accompany her.

While walking, the accused dragged the victim to a certain house in Itsoseng where he raped her. The victim managed to escape and ran home where she informed her mother. The incident was reported to the police who traced and arrested the accused.

The North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane, congratulated the Lichtenburg Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) for their hard work that resulted in the conviction.
