R5 million SARS fraud, suspect sentenced to 15 years

Warrick Walsh (52), has been sentenced to fifteen years direct imprisonment on Wednesday, 24 July 2019, by the North Gauteng High Court for defrauding the South African Revenue Service (SARS) of approximately R5 million.

Walsh was arrested in 2007 in Brits for the alleged illegal manufacturing of drugs, a matter that is still pending finalisation in court. It is alleged that the proceeds from the alleged drug activities were laundered through the suspect’s business account which was in arrears with SARS.

Walsh was arrested in 2010, and consequently charged with fraud, resulting in the recent conviction.

The Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation thoroughly investigated both cases and the outstanding case of illegal manufacturing of drugs will be heard in court on 22 August 2019.
