The police in Potchefstroom arrested two suspects aged 33 and 38 respectively for possession of dagga.
It is alleged that on Sunday, 14 June 2020 at about 08:30, members were doing routine patrol when they spotted a suspicious white Volkswagen Polo exiting Syferfontein gravel road and joining the R54 (Vereeniging – Potchefstroom) road and driving towards Potchefstroom direction.
The members immediately followed the vehicle and tried to stop it, but the driver sped off. As a result, back up was called and the vehicle was stopped by members of Potchefstroom Flying Squad just before it drove into N12 (Johannesburg – Potchefstroom) road.
After the vehicle was pulled off the road and searched, it was discovered that it was fully loaded with dagga weighing 103.1 Kilograms with estimated street value of over R250 000-00
The pair were immediately arrested and their vehicle confiscated. They are expected to appear before the Potchefstroom Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 17 June 2020 on a charge of possession of dagga.
The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena lauded all members involved in the operation for a sterling job. He warned that criminals should not think that Lockdown (Alert Level 3) Regulations allow people to do as they wish and reiterated that the police will always be vigilant to ensure that those who break the law are brought to book.
