37-Year-old Alfredo Mushongo, a Mozambique National, appeared before the Rustenburg Magistrates’ Court on Monday for his first court appearance, in connection with a case of possession of explosives.
This is after he was arrested on Friday, 12 May 2023, by members of Phokeng K9 Unit, Crime Intelligence and Boitekong police during an intelligence driven operation at Sondela Taxi Rank, in Boitekong, outside Rustenburg.
The suspect was searched after information was received that he was selling explosives.
During the search, 19 detonator fuses were found inside a backpack he was carrying.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the explosives were allegedly stolen from one of the mines in the area.
He is expected to re-appear before the same court on Friday, 26 May 2023, for a bail application.
