Selby Lerato Monyai (41) was convicted by the Tlhabane Regional court for unlawful possession of explosives on Wednesday, 25 August 2021.

The members of the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation were following up on a tip-off when Monyai was arrested on 29 April 2019 in Rustenburg.

He made a series of court appearances wherein he ultimately pleaded guilty and was sentenced to five (5) years direct imprisonment and declared unfit to possess a firearm.

The Provincial Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation in North West, Major General Patrick Mbotho warned criminals against trying to make quick money by stealing and selling explosives illegally as the conviction rate is proving to be impressive on cases of this nature.
