The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena lauded the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District investigation team for apprehending the third suspect in connection with the Ganyesa armed robbery.

The suspect was arrested on Friday, 13 August 2021 in Vryburg following an intensive investigation by members of the investigation team.

It was reported on Tuesday, 10 August 2021, that four males stormed Community Hall in Elias village, Ganyesa where pension payouts were taking place. They allegedly disarmed security guards and instructed everyone in the hall to lie down. The suspects then took two cash boxes and fled from the scene driving in a white Toyota Double Cab vehicle.

A joint search by various police units, members of the community and local farmers paid off when two suspects were arrested in Kgokgojane village leading to discovery of two cash boxes, cash and seizure of two firearms.

The pair; David Au (35) and Mooketsi Makune (32) have since appeared in court on Thursday, 12 August 2021. The accused were remanded in custody until Thursday, 26 August 2021.

Meanwhile, the third suspect, aged 43, is expected to make his first court appearance on Monday, 16 August 2021, on a charge of armed robbery.

The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena commended the investigation team for their diligence that resulted in the arrest of the third suspect.
