In an effort to remove illegal firearms from the wrong hands, an intelligence driven operation by Boitekong SAPS Visible Policing led to the arrest of two suspects for possession of unlicensed firearm.

It is alleged that on Friday, 27 March 2020 at about 19:50, police operationalised a tip-off received about an individual illegally possessing a firearm. As a result, the suspect’s vehicle with two occupants was stopped near Sunrise Clinic.

Upon searching the vehicle, police found a .38 special revolver loaded with live rounds hidden in the vehicle. The suspects were arrested and detained after they failed to give a satisfactory account of the possession of the firearm.

The suspects, aged 21 and 33 respectively are expected to appear before the Rustenburg Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 30 March 2020 on a charge of possession of unlicensed firearm. Investigation into the matter continues.

The North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena commended the members. He urged members of the community to heed to the call of Firearm Amnesty which will end on Friday, 31 May 2020 by surrendering their illegal and / or unwanted firearms.
