A total of 18 suspects aged between 18 and 30 were arrested following violent protests that have erupted since about 04:30 on the morning of 10 July 2019, in Letsopa near Ottosdal.
According to information, members of the community of Letsopa barricaded roads with burning tyres, stones and other objects. They are allegedly complaining about service delivery.
The R501 road between Ottosdal and Delareyville as well as the road between Ottosdal and Sannieshof were closed for traffic since in the morning.
In the process, municipal offices were burnt. Two Municipal trucks and a tractor were also burnt. One police vehicle was damaged after it was pelted with stones when protestors were prevented from damaging the court building.
The situation is currently calm. However, Public Order Police Unit members (POP) are monitoring the area.
