Orkney man arrested for brutal murder of ex girlfriend

Police in Orkney apprehended a 55 year old man in connection with the murder of his ex-girlfriend. The incident happened in the early hours of 18 January 2019. The suspect’s apprehension came after the lifeless body of a 54 year old woman was discovered by the police at his place.

According to information received the victim’s friend came to report a missing person on Wednesday, 16 January 2019. She stated that the victim was last seen inside the suspect’s vehicle. Today the police approached the suspect and he led the police to his house where the body of his ex-girlfriend was discovered in a pool of blood with head injuries. The victim was certified dead at the scene.

The suspect is expected to appear before Orkney Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 21 January 2019, for murder charges.

The North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane, condemned the killing and said it is sad to learn that people still resort to violence to solve their problems. She congratulated the members for the swift arrest and warned perpetrators that police will do everything in their power to make sure that those who breaks the law, will be brought to book.
