The FF Plus strongly condemns the instability in the North West provincial government brought about by the ongoing ANC infighting in the province.
The announcement made by the ANC on 17 August 2021, that the North West Premier, Job Mokgoro, will be removed from his position only makes matters worse. The fact that Mokgoro will be replaced by Bushy Maape, an outsider with no proven experience in government, is totally incomprehensible.
It appears as if Maape has been appointed to serve as a temporary “placeholder” while the various ANC factions settle their differences. This recent development follows Mokgoro’s dismissal with immediate effect of the North West MEC for Cooperative Governance, Housing and Traditional Affairs (CoGHSTA), Mmoloki Cwaile.
The current chaotic state of affairs is further paralysing key departments in the province’s local government, which is already facing a total collapse of service delivery.
It is a shame that the ANC is apparently continuing with its cynical powerplay at the expense of the people by putting the interests of the party and its deployed cadres before the interests of the people of the North West.
In the upcoming local government elections, voters must stand up and stand with the FF Plus to put a stop to the decline of local government.
