Police in Potchefstroom apprehended a 26-year-old man in connection with the alleged murder of 20-year-old Vincent Letlojane on Monday, 7 September 2020.

According to information received, the victim together with his girlfriend and a friend went to Kopano tavern in the Central Business District (CBD) where they met the suspect and eventually chatted. An argument ensued between the victim and the suspect. The latter allegedly took a knife and stabbed the victim on his chest. The suspect continued to stab the victim after he fell on the ground while trying to flee from the scene.

Subsequently, furious members of the community attacked the suspect. However, a brave and off-duty police officer who was passing by, rescued the suspect and alerted the police and paramedics. The suspect was taken to hospital for further medical attention.

The 26-year-old suspect is expected to appear before the Potchefstroom Magistrates’ Court as soon as he is discharged from the hospital.

The North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena thanked the member for his bravery and urged members of the community to work with the police in fighting crime and not to take the law into their own hands.
