Police in the province arrested 350 suspects between Friday 1 November and Sunday 3 November 2019, for different crimes through various operations at all seven policing clusters.

Of the 350 arrests, 167 were for liquor related crimes, which included 127 for drinking in public, being drunk in public and illegally dealing in liquor, while 50 motorists were nabbed for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

In addition, 33 individuals were nabbed for drug related crimes. The operations also led to two arrests for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. The other arrests were for different crimes such as shoplifting, theft, fraud, assault common, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, rape and robbery.

Furthermore, a total of 167 fines were issued for liquor and road traffic related offences.

The police managed during the operations to seize a variety of items including five knives, two pistols, eight rounds of ammunition, 633 liters of liquor and counterfeit cigarettes.

The North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane said the police and other role players will continue to enforce the law and ensure through these operations that perpetrators are dealt with effectively.
