Police in the province worked hard during stabilisation operations to ensure that firearms are removed from the wrong hands. This is after 25 firearms were confiscated during operations conducted between Saturday, 6 October and Wednesday, 31 October 2018. The police also managed to arrest 652 suspects during the operations in the clusters of Brits, Mahikeng, Klerksdorp and Rustenburg.

The suspects include those arrested for possession of drugs, possession of dangerous weapons, murder, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm (GBH), possession of suspected stolen property, aggravated robbery, obstruction and / or defeating the ends of justice and illicit mining.

Of the arrested suspects, 208 were issued with fines for liquor and road traffic related offences.

In Rustenburg, one of the suspects was arrested after being linked with a case of attempted murder committed in Wesselsbron, Free State Province in September 2018.

The North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane applauded the police for putting perpetrators behind bars in an endeavour to creating a safe and secure environment. She urged members of the community to work together with the police towards building safer communities.
