Kenechi Ndukaife Atuchukwu, a 45-year-old Nigerian national, appeared in the Klerksdorp Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 15 September 2025, facing charges of possession of and dealing in drugs.

The court appearance is the result of a lengthy investigation by the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation unit, which was conducted with the guidance of the National Prosecuting Authority’s Organised Crime Component. The probe focused on allegations of drug sales in and around Klerksdorp.

As part of the investigation, an undercover operation was conducted in 2022. During this operation, the accused was allegedly caught selling drugs to a customer.

Following the investigation, a warrant of arrest was issued for the suspect. The warrant was executed on Friday, 12 September 2025, when Atuchukwu was arrested in Klerksdorp.

The accused is linked to a case involving his fellow countryman, Michael Okoya, who was arrested last week for allegedly dealing in drugs.

The court remanded Atuchukwu in custody. He is scheduled to reappear in the same court alongside Okoya on Wednesday, 17 September 2025.
