Police in Potchefstroom apprehended a 29-year-old man on Tuesday, 10 March 2020, in connection with two counts of unlicensed firearms and possession of suspected stolen property. The suspect’s apprehension came after police received a tip-off from members of the community.
According to information at this stage police searched the suspect’s home, where they discovered two firearms. The suspect is currently on bail for four other cases, including two alleged murders committed in Ikageng during September 2018 and February 2019, outside Potchefstroom, as well as two cases for being in possession of unlicensed firearms, one in Potchefstroom during May 2019 and the second one in Ikageng during September 2019.
Kevin Maponyane (29) appeared in the Potchefstroom Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 12 March 2020. He was remanded in custody till Thursday 19 March 2020 for a formal bail application.
