On Saturday, 18 February 2023, a team consisting of Madibogo Visible Policing members and Detectives, traced and arrested Saame Mogogane, aged 38, for murder.
Mogogane was arrested following an incident reported on Wednesday, 15 February 2023 at Tlapeng Village in Madibogo.
It is alleged that the child’s mother left him under the care of the husband (the child’s step-father) whilst at work.
On her arrival at home the same day at about 18:10, she found her son laying unresponsive on the bed with multiple injuries on his body.
Emergency Medical and Rescue Services (EMRS) were summoned to the scene and they declared the two-year-old boy dead on the scene.
The step-father fled from the scene.
Mogogane appeared in the Atamelang Magistrates’ Court on 20 February 2023, on a charge of murder and was remanded in custody until his next court appearance before the same court on Wednesday, 22 February 2023.
The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, expressed his shock to learn of the cruel murder of such a young child. He said: “my child, should also be your child”, and urged community members to protect the innocent and speak out on behalf of those who can’t speak out for themselves.
