A 43-year-old suspect is expected to appear in the Rustenburg Magistrates’ Court today, in connection with the alleged murder of his girlfriend.
The accused’s court appearance stems from his arrest on Tuesday evening, 19 December 2023, consequent to the discovery of the lifeless body of a 31-year-old female Traffic Officer who was initially reported missing. The victim’s body was found in the early hours of Tuesday morning, 19 December 2023, in the vicinity of Arnoldistad in Rustenburg by a K9 Unit member who was on patrol.
Reports suggest that the victim was last seen with the accused leaving her rented room in Rustenburg North on Monday evening, 18 December 2023. Upon realising that the victim was not at home, then again failed to report for duty and that her cell phone was off, her supervisor reported her missing.
The accused was subsequently arrested while reporting a missing person.
The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena welcomed the arrest of the accused and indicated that the police will assertively deal with those who perpetrate Gender Based Violence related crimes and crimes against vulnerable groups.
