Police are investigating four counts of murder and inquest docket after a 38-year-old mother and her four sons, aged between 2 months and 15 years were found dead in a house in Vaalbank, just outside Coligny on Sunday morning, 9 May 2021.
The deceased were all declared dead by Emergency and Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) paramedics.
According to information available at this stage, reports suggest that the mother and father had an argument on Saturday night, 8 May 2021. After which the whole family, parents and six boys went to bed.
The mother woke up during the night and allegedly drank poison and spread it throughout the house. As a result, the mother and her four sons died while the 35-year-old father and two sons, aged 8 and 17 were admitted at hospital for medical treatment.
Investigation into the matter continues.
The North West Acting Provincial Commissioner; Major General Dintletse Molefe expressed her shock over the incident and conveyed condolences to the family. She once more requested members of the community to seek professional intervention to resolve their differences.
