The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena welcomed the arrest and subsequent appearance of six accused persons in the Itsoseng Magistrates’ Court on separate charges of murder relating to two recent mob justice incidents.

It is alleged that police were on Friday, 25 September 2020, summoned to Bodibe village where a severely assaulted Lebogang Kgoane, age not yet confirmed, was found lying on the road. He was taken to hospital where he died the following day. Following investigations into the incident; Rebecca Mokoto (55), Letlhogonolo Mokoto (18), Moses Ntekele (23) and Aobakwe Potso (20) were arrested. They will appear in court again on Tuesday, 6 October 2020, for formal bail application.

In another separate incident of mob justice in Itsoseng, Seipei Modisakeng (42) and Labius Mooketsi (36) were each granted R1000.00 bail upon appearance in the Itsoseng Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 18 September 2020. The pair will reappear in court on Wednesday, 28 October 2020.

The accused were arrested for the alleged murder of Seun Motlana (22). According to information received, police were on Wednesday, 16 September 2020, summoned to Bodibe clinic where Motlana was found dead. Further probe revealed that Motlana was transported to the clinic by an unknown man who was driving in a blue vehicle. A case of murder was opened leading to the arrest of the accused.

The Provincial Commissioner reiterated that taking the law into one’s hands is an illegal act that cannot be tolerated and that suspected criminal acts must be reported to the police because those who transgress the law will be dealt with as seen with these two incidents.
