A 53-year-old Jonas Rabaitsile Matshane aka Rambo appeared briefly before the Ventersdorp Magistrate’s Court on Thursday 1 April 2021, for his alleged involvement in the murder of his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend, Dan Moleko Radebe (49).

The incident happened on Saturday, 27 March 2021, at about 11:00, at the farm Buffelsvlei just outside Ventersdorp.

It is alleged that on the said day, Radebe was seen by residents of the farm on his way to the farm but he never arrived. According to information at our disposal, the last person who was seen leaving the farm on that day approximately the same time that the deceased was seen, is Matshane.

The mysterious disappearance of Radebe led his girlfriend to go and report him a missing person at Ventersdorp SAPS. Moreover, it is alleged that early on the morning of Sunday, 28 March 2021, Matshane was seen coming from the direction of wheat fields holding a spade.

A search for Radebe was initiated and on Tuesday, 30 March 2021, the lifeless body of Radebe was found in a shallow grave in the wheat fields not far from farm workers’ houses. Furthermore, it is alleged that Matshane left for Klerksdorp on Monday, 29 March 2021 and never returned.

A search for Matshane ensued and on Tuesday, 30 March 2021, he handed himself over to the police in Klerksdorp, he was then detained and eventually transported back to Ventersdorp. He was charged with murder and defeating the ends of justice. The accused will remain in custody and the case was remanded until Wednesday, 7 April 2021 for formal bail application. Investigation continues.
