Man who murdered his two young sons handed double life sentence

The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General, Sello Kwena welcomed two life sentences handed down to Dannyboy Fistos Khumalo (38) by the High Court sitting in Pretoria on Wednesday, 14 April 2021. The accused was sentenced to two life imprisonment for two counts of murder and three years for defeating the ends of justice, which will run concurrently.

Khumalo’s conviction came after he was arrested on Monday, 18 May 2020 following the death of his two sons aged 11 and 12 respectively.

Khumalo reported to the police on Friday, 15 May 2020 that the victims died after allegedly drinking a rat poison. An inquest docket was initially opened on Saturday, 16 May 2020 for investigation after the children were found dead at Valkop Plot in the vicinity of Assen near Brits.

However, it came out during investigation that the father poisoned the children. He was then charged with two counts of murder. The father was in prison since his arrest Saturday, 16 May 2020 till his sentencing. He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.

Lieutenant General Sello Kwena commended the police for working tirelessly to ensure that they collect enough evidence that led to Khumalo being sentenced to two life imprisonment.
