On Monday, 20 August 2018, a 35 year old accused is expected to re appear before the Mogwase Magistrates’ Court to apply for bail in a case in which he allegedly killed his 47 year old girlfriend.

The accused’s court appearance stems from his arrest in Kanana Township near Boitekong outside Rustenburg on Tuesday, 7 August 2018. It is alleged that the accused fatally stabbed his girlfriend with a knife on Saturday, 4 August 2018 at approximately 04:30 at Mabela A Podi village following a quarrel that ensued between them.

Subsequent to a manhunt that was launched after the police were alerted about the incident, the accused was nabbed and charged with murder. His first court appearance was on Friday, 10 August 2018.

The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane praised the police for their quick response that led to the arrest of the accused. She said it is sad to see women being abused and killed during Women’s month and that the police will not hesitate to ensure that the perpetrators face the full might of the law.
