A 33-year-old man has been remanded in custody after appearing in the Brits Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 30 September 2025, on a charge of rape.
The accused is expected to make a second appearance before the same court on Wednesday, 08 October 2025, for a formal bail application.
According to the case details, the man was apprehended on Monday, 29 September 2025, for the alleged rape of a 12-year-old minor. The incident is reported to have occurred on Sunday, 28 September 2025, at a residence in Oukasie Location near Brits.
It is alleged that the victim, who is the accused’s niece, arrived at her grandmother’s home and found her uncle sitting on a couch. When the girl proceeded to the kitchen, the uncle allegedly grabbed her from behind and forcefully took her to his bedroom, where he raped her.
Following the incident, the accused allegedly threatened the victim, warning her not to tell anyone. Despite the threats, the victim went home and reported the matter to her mother, who subsequently informed the police.
A case of rape was immediately registered. Police successfully traced and arrested the accused a few hours later.
Investigation into the matter continues.
