The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane commended police in Motswedi for their dedication which resulted in the arrest of a 36 year old suspect for the alleged murder of Keitumetse Nkgothoe (75).

The long arm of the law caught up with the suspect on Tuesday, 29 May 2018 in Gopane village after an intensive investigation following an incident in which Nkgothoe was found with a wound on the head inside her house at about 06:00 on Friday, 16 March 2018 at Gopane village.

The old woman was taken to the clinic where she was certified dead. Consequent to that, members of the community took the law into their own hands and allegedly killed a 25 year old Lloyd Nkgothoe whom they accused of being responsible for the death of the old woman.

Following the arrest of seven suspects for the alleged murder of Lloyd Nkgothoe, members of the community embarked on a violent protest that led to apprehension of three suspects for public violence.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that at the time of the incident, the suspect was on parole after being sentenced to 18 years imprisonment in 2004 for house robbery. He is expected to appear in the Lehurutshe Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 31 May 2018 facing a charge of murder.

The Provincial Commissioner lauded the police for working tirelessly as well as efficient utilisation of investigative aids that led to the arrest of the suspect. She said that the incident should serve as a caution to members of the community that taking the law into one’s hands can result in the deaths of innocent individuals.

She encouraged communities to work together with the police in the fight against crime.
