A 20-year-old man, accused of the rape and robbery of a 76-year-old woman, is scheduled to make a second appearance in the Schweizer-Reneke Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 25 August 2025, for a formal bail application.
The suspect initially appeared before the court on Monday, 18 August 2025, following his arrest for a violent incident alleged to have occurred on the night of Friday, 15 August 2025, in the Molatswaneng Section of Amalia, outside Schweizer-Reneke.
According to police reports, the elderly victim was asleep in her home when she was awakened by the sound of footsteps inside her residence. Upon investigating the noise, she discovered an individual standing near her bedroom door.
It is alleged that the woman screamed upon seeing the intruder, but the accused silenced her by placing his hand over her mouth. The suspect then proceeded to rob the victim of an undisclosed amount of cash, before raping her and fleeing the scene.
Authorities were summoned to the scene and a case was officially registered. Through their investigation, police successfully traced and apprehended the suspect.
The matter was postponed to Monday to allow for the formal bail hearing proceedings.
