Two suspects both aged 28, are expected to appear before the Atamelang Magistrates’ Court on Monday,13 February 2023, on charges of alleged damage to essential infrastructure, possession of explosives, ammunition and firearm.

The suspects’ court appearance comes after their apprehension on Wednesday, 8 February at Madibogo village outside Mahikeng.

That’s after members of Setlagole and Madibogo police stations as well as Mahikeng Crime Intelligence followed up on information regarding Automated Teller Machines (ATM) bombing wanted suspects. The latter allegedly exploded two (ATM’s) on Tuesday, 6 February 2023, in a complex and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Subsequent to the incident, the police spotted a suspicious vehicle at Madibogo village leading to car chase.

The suspects,’ vehicle ultimately stopped and two males were arrested. Further investigations led the team to a house in Dikgatlhong where explosives, a firearm, ammunition and other items were recovered.

With arrival of Mahikeng Tactical Response Team (TRT) members, the hunt for more suspects led the team to a house at Madibogo RDP where ink-stained notes were recovered.

Investigations into the matter, including tracing and arresting other suspects, continue. The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, applauded the units involved in making sure that the suspects are arrested and pointed out that criminals will not be allowed to walk free.
