The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane welcomed a life imprisonment sentence handed down on Tuesday, 12 November 2019 to a 26 year old accused Basie Daniel Tsele by the Zeerust Regional Court.

The accused was sentenced on two counts of rape and one of kidnapping which were committed at Lekubu village near Zeerust in September 2018.

In the first case, a 12 year old minor was kidnapped and taken to the bushes where she was raped. The accused then ran away from the scene, but he lost his cellular phone which linked him with the crime.

In a second unrelated case, the accused visited a friend who stays with an 84 year old woman. Upon being told that the friend was not home, the accused decided to wait inside the house. The old woman left a while later to go to her room. It was at that point that the accused followed her and raped her.

The accused was successfully traced and arrested after the incidents were reported to the police.

The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane lauded members and other role players including prosecution for their hard work that led to the conviction. She reiterated that the police working together with other role players will ensure that those commit crimes against women and children, are dealt with harshly.
