On Thursday, 7 February 2019, at about 11:00, Brits Trio Task Team arrested a 52 year old suspect for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. It is alleged that the police went to the suspect’s rented house at a small holding in Mamogalieskraal outside Brits after receiving information.

During a search at the suspect’s house, the police found and seized close to 24 000 various assorted rounds of ammunition, five firearms of which three were unlicensed as well as four self made firearms.

Further investigation led the police to a flat owned by the suspect at Silverton, Pretoria where the following items were confiscated: a suspected ammunition manufacturing machine (re-loader), different calibre bullet heads, 400 rounds of ammunition, 1000 empty cartridges and gunpowder.

The suspect, gunpowder(52) appeared before the Brits Magistrate’sā€™ Court for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. He will reappear before the same court soon and he is being remanded in custody.

The North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane lauded the police for their efforts in ensuring apprehension of the suspect as well as confiscation of illegal firearms and ammunition that are used to commit serious and violent crimes. She also thanked members of the community for coming forward with information that led to the arrest of the suspect.
