A Klerksdorp couple, aged 30 and 47, is expected to appear at the local Magistrate’s Court today for illegal possession of drugs and dealing in drugs.

The Hawks’ South African Narcotics Enforcement Bureau (SANEB) pursued information of possible drug dealing activities by the couple said to be run from their vehicle.

The couple’s vehicle was spotted in the Klerksdorp CBD and the male partner was quickly restrained. The vehicle was searched and a packet full of mandrax tablets was found. When interviewed, the suspect claimed to be from another town, however the investigators found receipts in his vehicle which detailed his physical address.

The team proceeded to couple’s rental apartment where they found the lady as well as further packets of mandrax tablets and cocaine inside. The value of the drugs is estimated to be worth approximately R100 000.

The Provincial Head of the Hawks Major General Patrick Mbotho has warned that drugs are taking many people’s lives and urged the community to assist the police by reporting drug dealers.
