Crime prevention and combating operations in the province continue to gain successes. This after Orkney Visible Policing and Stilfontein K9 members arrested five suspects on Friday morning, 19 May 2023.

The members were on the lookout for a vehicle of which the occupants earlier robbed a cell phone shop in Klerksdorp.

The vehicle with five occupants was spotted and stopped on the R30 road in Lourens Park, Orkney approximately 30 minutes after the alleged robbery was committed.

During the search, the police recovered and seized 14 stolen cellular phones as well as a firearm with ammunition, which were found hidden inside the vehicle.

Initial investigations indicated that the firearm was stolen in the Free State Province during a reported housebreaking.

All five suspects between the ages of 29 and 39 were immediately arrested.

They are expected to appear before the Orkney Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 22 May 2023, on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and possession of suspected stolen property.

The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena expressed gratitude to the members for their efforts in the fight against crime and the illegal proliferation of firearms.
