Hawks Serious Organised Crime assisted by Illicit Mining Task Team remain resolute in addressing the proliferation of unlicensed firearms.

This was evident in Klerksdorp on Sunday, 22 January 2023, when the team arrested two suspects, aged 32 and 29 years old, in Extension 7 Khuma following an intelligence-driven operation.

According to a preliminary report, the team operationalised information and proceeded to the identified address in Khuma, Klerksdorp.

Upon arrival a foreign national and South African female were found in one bedrooms. A search was conducted and a silver .28 special Arminius revolver with obliterated serial numbers with five .38 cartridges were found.

Inside a big box a rifle magazine wrapped in SANDF field trousers as well as were also found.

The firearm will be subjected to a ballistic test to determine whether it is linked to other serious crimes committed
