Illegal possession of explosives and firearms suspect to appear in court

Today, 26 August 2016, a 56-year-old suspect will appear in the Rustenburg Magistrates’ Court for illegal possession of explosives and firearms.

The suspect’s appearance in court emanates from his apprehension on Wednesday, 24 August 2016 near Vlaklagte farm outside Rustenburg. He was arrested after police acted on a tip-off and found him in possession of 76 durafuse, capped fuse and one reel of cortex detonating fuse.

Further investigation including a search conducted today at the suspect’s place led to seizure of five rifles, smoke grenades and two pistols of which one he possessed illegally.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that durafuse is a blasting accessory used to detonate the cortex cord which is highly destructive. At this stage, it is not yet known where the explosives were going to be used. Investigation into the matter continues.
