Four suspects were arrested at a mine in Sun City on Wednesday for illegal mining of Chrome worth almost R1 million.

A multi- disciplinary team consisting of the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation, Klerksdorp Illegal Mining Task Team, SAPS Airwing and Bidvest Protea Coin followed up on information and executed an operation at the mine.

Five trucks were found loaded with stolen chrome, other exhibits found at the scene included two excavators and three LDV vehicles supplying diesel to earth moving equipment. All exhibits were subsequently seized for further investigation.

The suspects will make their first appearance before the Mogwase Magistrate’s court on Friday, 27 August 2021 facing charges of illegal mining and theft of chrome.

The Provincial Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation in North West – Major General Patrick Mbotho welcomed the arrest and lauded the sterling work by all role players.
