A 28-year-old Fikille Modukanele was remanded in custody upon appearance in the Molopo Magistrates’ Court on 16 July 2020, on a charge of violation of a grave.

The accused appeared in court following his apprehension on Wednesday, 15 July 2020 in Vryburg. He was arrested at one of the government offices after police followed up on information that the accused was in possession of human remains (bones).

Upon searching the man’s luggage, the police found bones inside two bags. The accused informed the police during questioning that the bones were of his late father. He further told the police that he took them after digging up his father’s grave in Moshawane village, west of Mahikeng in the policing area of Tshidilamololmo.

The police have since seized the bones which will be subjected to forensic tests.

Investigation into the matter continues. The accused will appear in court again on Wednesday, 22 July 2020.
