A swift response by the police culminated in the arrest of two suspects aged 25 and 34 on Friday, 27 April 2018 for business robbery and possession of suspected stolen motor vehicle.
The pair’s apprehension stems from an incident in which three men forcefully entered a government building in Ganyesa and eventually fled with two state owned vehicles. According to information available at this stage, three men who were wearing balaclavas entered the building carrying firearms and pangas, tied five security guards with cable ties and demanded the office keys.
The suspects allegedly fled the scene with two state owned vehicles, a Volkswagen Polo and a Toyota Hilux bakkie. Subsequent to reporting the matter to the police, neighbouring police stations were alerted.
The first suspect aged 34 was arrested in Vryburg still driving the Volkswagen Polo while the Toyota Hilux was found abandoned in the bushes near Amalia. Following intensive investigation, the second suspect aged 25, was nabbed in Morokweng village.
Both suspects are expected to appear before the Ganyesa and Vryburg Magistrates’ Courts on Monday, 30 April 2018 on charges of business robbery and possession of suspected stolen vehicle respectively.
The North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane applauded the Vryburg Cluster police for their swift reaction and cooperation that led to recovery of state vehicles and apprehension of the suspects.
