The deputy commissioner of police in North West, Major General Jan Mabula, and nine members of the organized crime unit were charged with assault with the intention of causing grievous bodily harm.
Two suspects were tortured in 2006 during the investigation of the robbery of R14 million at the Benoni SAPS store.
Several disciplinary matters are still pending against Mabula and his team.
Mabula was also involved in the arrest of Paul O’Sullivan and Sarah-Jane Trent, that was later withdrawn.
