Finance Chitambara (41), Andile Mankule (46), Tsietsi Moretele (38) and Petrus Papala (35) appeared in the Wolmaransstad Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 4 June 2021, for possession of suspected stolen copper cables.

The accused appeared in court following their arrest at about 13:30 on Thursday, 3 June 2021. According to information received, police were on patrol when they spotted a suspicious white Hyundai sedan and followed it.

They were later joined by Provincial traffic officers and the car was ultimately stopped for a search and inspection. During the search, copper cables weighing 200kg worth R10 000.00 were found in the car. The suspects were arrested after failing to account for the possession.

Chitambara and Mankule were released on warning upon appearance in court while Tsietsi Moretele and Petrus Papala were remanded in custody until Wednesday, 9 June 2021.

Investigation into the matter continues.
