The Wolmaransstad District Court has on Tuesday, 14 April 2020, remanded Sipho Theodore Bunga (39), Thamsanqa Thami Metsing (47), Sipho Patrick Lehura Moremi (19), Sishupo Daniel Moruti (27) and Thebeetsile Jonas Sebitso (42) in custody until Wednesday, 22 April 2020 for a formal bail application.

The court appearance of the five accused emanates from their arrest on Wednesday, 8 April 2020 and Tuesday, 14 April 2020 respectively. It is alleged that on Monday, 23 March 2020, the victim, Johannes Letlhogonolo Lebopo (24) was accused of cellular phone robbery by one of the accused.

Furthermore, it is alleged that the accused called his friends and they went together and looked for the victim. It is alleged that the victim was brutally assaulted at different locations with various sorts of objects including bricks after being traced at Extension 15 in Tswelelang.

After this gruesome act, the accused drove the victim to the local hospital where they allegedly failed to give the true version of the incident. The victim was later transferred to Tshepong Hospital in Klerksdorp where he succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday, 1 April 2020.

The police conducted a thorough investigation of the incident and as a result, the accused were arrested and charged with murder.

The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, applauded the Wolmaransstad Detectives for executing a sterling job in ensuring that the accused are brought to book. He further warned that the police will leave no stone unturned in pursuit of those who take the law into their own hands and ensuring that they are successfully prosecuted.
