Five arrested with precious metals in Rustenburg

Five men were arrested for possession of precious metal with an estimated value of R20,000 in Rustenburg, North West police said on Wednesday.

Sergeant Kelebogile Moleko said the men, aged between 42 and 48, were arrested by the Rustenburg Flying Squad on Tuesday.

She said the police were on routine patrol, when they spotted and stopped a suspicious vehicle in Rustenburg Square.

“The police found five occupants inside the vehicle. The occupants were asked to step aside for a search. Upon searching the vehicle, the police found precious metals inside the boot with estimated value of R20,000. The suspects were then arrested after failing to account for the precious metals.”

They were expected to appear in the Rustenburg Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
